With just two rounds of the British Touring Car Championship remaining, WSR aim to finish the 2025 season on a high, starting this weekend at Silverstone.

The self-styled Home of British Motor Racing is a legendary venue globally and a special one for the Sunbury-on-Thames team as it was the scene of their debut race win in 1981 and of their first BTCC success in 1998.

Now Jake Hill, Charles Rainford, Aiden Moffat and Daryl DeLeon all aim to add to the reigning champions’ long list of successes at the Northamptonshire venue aboard their BMW 330i M Sport race cars.

Jake, who has three victories so far in 2025, has been one of the outstanding performers on the 1.6-mile National layout with race wins in each of the past four seasons and eight top-five finishes from his last 13 starts there.

The Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW driver is fifth in the championship, but is within touching distance of a top-three spot, should he continue his recent Silverstone form into the coming weekend.

One of the most hotly-contested battles of BTCC 2025 is the fight for the Jack Sears Trophy between WSR’s Daryl DeLeon and LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR’s Charles Rainford.

Their BMWs have been near-inseparable in the title fight across the season, but a triple class win for Daryl last time out at Donington Park has edged the Anglo-Filipino into a 14-point lead over Charles with still 120 available from the final six races.

Daryl, who is based in Cambridgeshire, scored his first BTCC points finish at Silverstone in 2023 and is aiming to use his upturn in form since the summer break to build his advantage still further.

Charles, who has four Jack Sears Trophy race wins to his name in 2025, has never competed in the BTCC at Silverstone as he is in his rookie season. The Sussex racer, however, was victorious at the circuit last year in the Carrera Cup GB support event.

His LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR team-mate, Aiden Moffat, was a winner at Silverstone in 2018 and produced one of the drives of his career the following season as he stormed from 29th on the grid to second place in a wet race.

The Dalkeith racer is just six points away from a top-10 position in the standings and is targeting a strong weekend as he aims to complete the season in his best championship position since 2021.

How to watch

While all races will be broadcast in HD on ITV4 from 1045 on Sunday, a major new agreement means that fans outside the UK and North America will be able to watch every BTCC race live on the BTCC YouTube channel. Qualifying will be broadcast on the ITV Sport YouTube channel without geographic restrictions.

Need to know

In 2025, entrants in the BTCC use a 100 per cent sustainable fuel for the first time. This replaces the hybrid power unit that was used from 2022-24; the removal of which means that all cars are 55kg lighter than last year.

To aid overtaking, drivers can access the series’ TOCA Turbo Boost during qualifying and racing, meaning up to a 60bhp increase against cars not using boost.

Because of his championship position, Jake will be allowed to use hybrid boost for nine seconds on each lap of qualifying and for nine laps of Race One. Boost will be available to Jake once he is doing 130kph.

Aiden, Charles and Daryl can access their boost from 115kph, will be able to use it for 15s per lap in qualifying and for 12 laps in Race One. Boost allocations will be re-set based on the Race One finishing order.

At Silverstone the medium-compound Goodyear will be the standard tyre while the soft must also be used during one of Sunday’s three races.

What they said

Jake Hill, Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport: “After narrowly missing out on the podium places at Donington, where we showed some great pace all weekend, we head to Silverstone looking to go that next step further and challenge for those results we know we can achieve with the pace we have worked so hard to find. Silverstone is always a highlight of the calendar, and we have had some fantastic results here spanning all the way back to 2021! We will be giving it everything this weekend to be battling at the front, and I can’t wait to hit the track.”

Charles Rainford, LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR: “We’re at the business end of the season now and I have two main targets; to make sure I finish in the top 10 of the overall championship and to get back ahead in the Jack Sears Trophy. Ultimately it’s one non-finish for Daryl and we’ll be more or less level-pegging it, which should make it a great battle. I won at Silverstone in the Carrera Cup GB last year so it should be a fairly straightforward adaptation to the rear-wheel-drive BMW here. Let’s see how we go.”

Aiden Moffat, LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR: “It’s always good to come back to a track where I’ve won before in the BTCC, but if anything, the memory of the wet race, where I came through from the back to the podium, is even stronger. It’s been a strange second half to the season because the BMW has always felt good, we’ve just had some things go against us, like the timing of the rain in Donington qualifying or getting hit while running second at Croft… If everything goes to plan, there’s no reason not to have a good event.”

Daryl DeLeon, WSR: “Things have really accelerated for me since the summer break. My qualifying and race results have been better as we’ve dialled in the BMW on a more consistent basis and I’ve managed to build my lead in the Jack Sears Trophy over Charles. I think it’s a battle that’s going to go the distance, so I have to make sure I keep stacking up the points at Silverstone while also trying to stay in the top 10 in the overall championship.”

Dick Bennetts, Team Principal: “Silverstone is such an important location in the WSR story. It’s where we made a winning race debut in Formula 3 over 40 years ago with Jonathan Palmer and where we scored our first BTCC victory during the iconic ‘Super Touring’ era. The National layout has also become quite a strong circuit for our BMWs, even though it’s inherently a front-wheel-drive track. Jake has won here every year he’s been with us and that gives us a great platform to begin with as we aim to score more victories across the final two rounds. The battle for the Jack Sears Trophy between Daryl and Charles is keeping us on our toes and we’re determined to give Aiden every opportunity to score his first podium with us. It’s going to be an interesting weekend.”
