Jake Hill put WSR on the British Touring Car Championship podium twice at Silverstone on Sunday while Charles Rainford scored Jack Sears Trophy success to set up a thrilling title-decider with stablemate Daryl DeLeon in a fortnight’s time.

Jake was one of the standout performers aboard his Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW 330i M Sport as he closed to within a handful of points of the championship top three, despite having missed the Croft event in August through illness.

The 2024 champion moved up from his third spot on the opening-race grid, battling for the lead and eventually coming home second. He added third in Race Two to record his sixth podium finish of the season and WSR’s 11th.

Fourth place in the finale means he has set up an intriguing finale at his home circuit, Brands Hatch, as he is fourth in the Drivers’ standings, just four points off the top three, having began the day 39 adrift.

A similarly strong raceday was had by LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR’s Aiden Moffat, who followed his best qualifying result of 2025 on Saturday with his highest weekend points total of the year too.

Showing an impressive blend of speed and racecraft, the Scottish racer twice finished sixth and added eighth spot in Race Two. His 28-point haul helped him climb into the championship top 10.

His LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR team-mate Charles Rainford scored his fifth Jack Sears Trophy (JST) event win from the nine events held the season to take the title fight down to the Brands Hatch finale.

The Sussex racer’s best result came in Race Two as he charged from 15th to fifth (and best of the JST contenders) on the favoured soft tyre, surviving several hits to his rear end from rival drivers on the way.

Fifteenth and 12th spots in the day’s other races not only kept him in the top 10 of the overall standings, but also closed him to within eight points of Daryl DeLeon in the JST battle.

Daryl had made history on Saturday by becoming the first Filipino driver to score a BTCC pole position, but his race day was to be a frustrating one; a puncture of a left-front tyre that had earlier been flat-spotted dropping him to 13th at the finish.

The Cambridgeshire-based 20-year-old, who still led the JST contenders in that race, finished 10th in Race Two, but suffered a broken driveshaft while performing a practice start as he headed to the Race Three grid.

Instead of starting from the second row, as planned, he had to wait as his crew repaired his car in pitlane. This led to him starting a lap behind the field and finishing 20th.

He and Charles are two of only three drivers left in contention for the prize largely aimed at inexperienced or rookie drivers, with just one round remaining.

Jake Hill, Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport: “It’s been a mega day and I’m super, super happy. In Race One the pace was strong and I had a good fight with Dan Lloyd for the win, but he was ahead when the safety car that we finished under came out. Then third place in Race Two and onto the last race where I came from 10th to fourth. For me and the Laser Beamer, it’s been a good day.”

Aiden Moffat, LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR: “It’s been a great weekend. We had really good pace on Saturday, got into Q2, but left too much pressure in the rears when we crossed the tyres over so had too much oversteer and just missed Q3. Then today I was fighting for fourth in Race One but ended sixth, added eighth in Race Two when I was a bit in the wars and then in Race Three I had a lap-and-a-half to go and made a stupid mistake, locked up the front left and ended up sixth when I was on for fourth.”

Charles Rainford, LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR: “It’s been a lovely Sunday. We had a steady opening race, a really nice Race Two to go from 15th to fifth and then a dodgy Race Three that put us right back there again. But to come away with a Jack Sears Trophy win and having closed right in on Daryl in the points has been fantastic. It’s full prep now towards Brands Hatch. Let’s go and win this!”

Daryl DeLeon, WSR: “Today’s not been ideal. In Race One I locked a wheel, which gave me a flat spot for the rest of the race, and then had a puncture, but I managed to get home for the Jack Sears Trophy lead. In Race Two I was on the medium tyre, but had a really good battle to finish 10th, which I was happy with. In the last race I was supposed to start third, but my driveshaft broke on the way to the grid. I’m so grateful to WSR for getting the car fixed so I could at least get out and score some Jack Sears points. We’re going to fully focus for Brands Hatch and we’ll give it our all there.”

Dick Bennetts, Team Principal: “Overall it’s been a good day with two podium finishes for Jake, a Manufacturer win for BMW in Race Two and the Jack Sears Trophy for Charles across the three races. Naturally starting on pole position and with two cars in the top three, we’d have hoped to have won today, but this has always been a front-wheel drive track and we’ve gone against the form book when we’ve won here in previous years. I’m very pleased for Aiden, who’s been one of the most consistent drivers of all across the three races, but frustrated for Daryl, who could have been right up there in Race Three if he’d started from the second row, as planned.”
